How Do We Know Jesus Is God’s Son?

How do we know Jesus is Gods son-page-001

The world paints Christians as uneducated followers of a mythological man named Jesus. However; the world has been brainwashed by Satan. As I discussed in a previous chapter, religion itself is a weapon used by Satan. Some religions depict Jesus as a mere man, an angel, the brother of Satan and some teach there is no such thing as the Son of God. That brings us to the question of, how do we know Jesus is God’s Son? Before we go too far the truth is mouthed by God himself:
“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17

The Bible is the number one history book of all times. Archaeologists have uncovered and proven much of its history. Many say, “follow the science”. If that is the case then they should be willing to follow the history uncovered by science.

The Saviour of mankind was prophesied in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament. We will look at a few of these as they prove that Jesus is God’s Son.

Virgin Birth

Many attack the virgin birth as being fictional. Some Christians even doubt this is possible. Again I remind those who believe this way that you are not to add or subtract from the Bible. If you believe in God you must believe his whole word (Bible). You cannot pick and choose what to believe.

Right after Adam and Eve sinned God foretold of a future Saviour through women. He painted the picture of Satan’s head beneath Jesus’ foot. Isaiah later prophesized that a virgin would conceive and bear a son who would be called Immanuel (God is with us).
“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:15
“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14

These prophecies materialized hundreds of years later.
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” Matthew 1:18

Bethlehem

Scriptures also foretell Jesus’ place of birth as being Bethlehem.
“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”  Micah 5:2

Sometimes God moves us by different means to places we ordinarily would not go. When this happens it is a part of his divine plan. Mary was in her ninth month of pregnancy when a law was made that the men had to return to their place of birth. Joseph’s birthplace was Bethlehem (City of David). The stage at that point was set to fulfill the prophecy of  Bethlehem being the birthplace of Jesus. Not only was Jesus born in Bethlehem but angels announced that he was our Saviour and is Christ the Lord. They did not say Christ your angel or Christ the man. They said, “SAVIOUR WHO IS CHRIST THE LORD (God’s son)”!
“And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:1-11

Lineage of David

God told Jerimiah that he would raise a king from the lineage of David.
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.” Jerimiah 23:5

The angel of the Lord informed Mary that she would give birth to the son of God. You cannot get blunter than that.
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” Luke 1:30-36

 He Shall Ride A Donkey

Zechariah predicted that the just King (son of God), would come humbly riding a donkey.
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.” Zechariah 9:9

Jesus was recognized as King and was worshipped as such. He was indeed sitting upon a donkey. The disciples recognized that this was the fulfillment of prophecy.
“On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. 14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, 15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. 16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.” John 12:12-16

Betrayed

Many do not know that it was prophesized in the Old Testament regarding the future betrayal of Jesus. People in the Old Testament were given insight into the Son of God by God.
“All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more. Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.” Psalm 41:7-9

There are times when Jesus refers to himself as the Son of Man. I believe this is because he is part man and part God. The human side of him does feel pain and will die, however; both sides of him will rise again because he is God’s Son.
“When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”. . . 23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” 25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “You have said so.” Matthew 26:20-21, 23-25
“And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. 48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?” Luke 22:47-48

Lots thrown for his clothes / His hands and feet pierced

A gruesome death for Jesus is foretold in Psalm. Imagine huge nails driven through each hand and foot. His death was also meant to humiliate him by stripping him of his clothes and gambling for them.
“For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. 18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.” Psalm 22:16-18

When Jesus was crucified his clothes were stripped and soldiers did gamble for a piece of them. His hands and feet were pierced to nail him to the cross. After Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, he showed his disciples the holes in his hands and feet.
“But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. 38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. 40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them. 44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:” Luke 24:37-46

Dies with criminals

You would think that God’s Son, the King of men, would not have had to experience a gruesome death and that he would have died in the presence of royalty. That was not the case. His death was also predicted in the Old Testament.
“Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53:12

Jesus was hung on the cross between two known criminals.
“And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. 28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.” Mark 15:27-28

Resurrection

The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ are all the proof any true believer needs that Jesus is God’s Son. It too was prophesized in the Old Testament.
“For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” Psalm 16:10

Jonah was a story that held parallel meaning to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Jonah was in the whale’s belly for three days. He should have died but he did not and was spit out on the third day. Jesus said that the story of Jonah is the only sign needed.
“But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Matthew 12:39-40

Jesus is the only man to rise from the dead. Because of him, we have hope of everlasting life with him. He was the firstfruit over death which gives us hope also.
“And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.” Matthew 28:5-7
“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.”
1 Corinthians 15:20-23

Jesus is God’s Son!

Jesus was a man on his mother’s side but God on his Father’s side. Thank goodness he loved us enough to die for us. Here are a few other verses that show that indeed Jesus is God’s Son because both God and Jesus say so.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.” Acts 13:33
“But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? 62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” Mark 14:61-62
“And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” Matthew 17:1-5
“and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22b
