I read the story about Jesus’ birth almost every year as far back as I can remember, but it never really sank in; his whole generation of males were wiped out.
Not long ago, during Sunday school lesson on first fruits, our teacher read this, “Isaiah 53:8 (KJV) He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.” At that very moment it was like, wow, the meaning of these words finally hit me, no males of his generation were left.
WHERE DOES IT SAY JESUS’ GENERATION WAS WIPED OUT?
Herod in a jealous attempt to make sure there wouldn’t be a King greater than him, ordered the slaughter of newborn male babies.
Matthew 2:16(KJV) Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
Let this sink in, ALL male babies 2 & under were killed for the vanity of a power hungry king. You might think, “oh, what a wicked man,” and you are right. But, have you given any thought of the number of unborn babies that are murdered everyday via abortion, in our time?
WHO SHALL DECLARE HIS GENERATION?
I’ve pondered on this question, if all the males of Jesus’ generation were dead, who was left? My first thought was; the women. Although this is true, women unless no men stepped forward, during this time of history were not leaders. So who does that leave?
- THE DISCIPLES WERE TAUGHT BY JESUS FOR THIS VERY TASK
The Great Commission found in Matthew 28:16-20 (KJV) Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen
The Great Commission is not just for Jesus’ Disciples, but for us also. We are considered disciples.
- THE HOLY SPIRIT
- God fills each of us with the Holy Spirit (Ghost) upon our acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Saviour.
John 14:26 (KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Acts 1:8(KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
- Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
- THE CHURCH
- As a church we are overseers with the task to tell others about Jesus and God’s word.
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood
Why do I believe the Disciples, the Holy Spirit and the Church were put in place to declare Jesus’ generation? Because they were put in place by God, not only for Jesus’ lost generation, but for all generations.
Would love to hear your opinions on this. Have a blessed week.
