What will Heaven look like?

One of the perks of knowing Jesus is the promise of heaven. Have you ever wondered what heaven will look like? Will it be ordinary like our world or something spectacular? Are the streets made of gold?

I personally believe heaven’s beauty will be beyond our human comprehension. The beautiful 200 ft thick wall of jasper with its foundation comprised of twelve different layers of beautiful stones already has me envisioning the majesty of God’s light shining through it. If the wall does not intrigue you enough then just think of the city itself which will be made of pure clear gold. Revelation 21:18-20 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.¹⁹ And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; ²⁰ The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.

Not only are the twelve walls of heaven made of jasper with twelve different layers of precious stones, but the gates are made of pearls. But as humans we have trouble fathoming that each pearl gate consists of one giant pearl. Revelations 21:12-13, 21a And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates… 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl:

The answer to, “will the streets be made of gold?” the answer is yes. Revelation 21:21b and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

There will be no need of sun or moon for the glory of God will light Heaven through Jesus. Revelations 21:23-25 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

On top of all the other beauty described there will be a crystal river flowing from the throne of God and Jesus. And on both sides of the river is the tree of life with twelve different fruits. Revelation 22:1-2 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. ² In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

The dimension of the New Jerusalem (heaven) if taken literally will be a 1400-mile square cube, enough to house billions of people. Revelation 21:15-17 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. ¹⁶ And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. ¹⁷ And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

Although Heaven is made to be pleasing to our eyes the most beautiful and reverent beauty will be God and His throne. I can see in my mind the beauty of God, the rainbow surrounding his throne and the lightning & thunder that radiate from it. Later we will study what Revelation 4 literally means. We are just looking into the beauty of heaven today. Revelation 4:1-5 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. ² And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. ³ And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. ⁴ And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. ⁵ And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Heaven will indeed be the most beautiful thing we will ever see, but there is only one way to achieve the honor of living forever there & viewing this marvelous place and that is accepting our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as your savior.
