I would like to give a special thank you to Mark Scott for taking time out of his busy schedule to pen a blog. Mark is one of the few Christians who saw the importance of Christians being represented in our Government. He has faithfully served 6 years in the political arena. He is currently a County Commission for Randolph County.
Recently Franklin Graham issued a challenge for Christians to run for office. Not necessarily big offices, but offices where they would feel comfortable. Most people do not realize it, but even holding an office in your local Parent Teacher groups gives you the power to influence others for the good of God. We should not be silent and then wonder why the world is in the shape it is in. The main thing we should remember when holding any office is; do your job with love for God and the people you serve. I’m so happy there are people like Mark striving to make a difference.
Many times, in the political world it is the popular thing for politicians to use the Lord and church to help them politically. While it may be easy to say that we are “Christian politicians” or “Christian Conservatives”, more and more the faith of the truly committed politician is being tested as we seek to represent our constituents and our Savior. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Never more has this spiritual warfare been on display in America than it has in the last couple of years.
In early 2014, there was a concerted effort by pro homosexual groups to push the Obama administration to become more forceful in supporting their agenda. They began pushing local governments as well to make it policy to accept gender identification and sexual orientation as a new classification within the anti-discriminatory classes for hiring and housing. They pushed for local government to pass new laws to protect these new classes. This tested many Christian legislators, like myself because we were being pressured from these groups while many in the faith community were either unaware or afraid to show support. Faith is most time tested when one must stand when support is the least. It separates the faithful from those who just use faith for political purposes. We who do take a stand receive ridicule and get called names. These groups threaten to ruin our futures as political leaders. Yet the faithful must focus on doing right, not the next election.
Now new groups are being formed and funded by wealthy individuals. Their purpose is to disrupt any conservative who tries to speak in public forums. They also name call and demonize anyone who opposes their cause. Believers who hold office are being targeted. Pray for your Christian office holders to be safe and to stand for what is right regardless of the opposition.
Let Mark know how much you appreciate men like him and that you are praying for him. Leave a comment below.
